A review
I just finished reading Beast Hunters and I'm excited to try it via PbP. The cool thing about the game is it seems like it would be very easy for two players to switch the roles of Hunter (PC) and Challenger (GM) scene by scene, so we could alternate scenes -- perhaps even draw in elements from each individual's adventure as we went. What do you guys think?

Sounds tempting to me, though I don't have the book.
Do the scenes need to alternate or could they just be played in parallel?
How does the multiplayer version work?

Now that you mention it -- of course they can be parallel! I'm still thinking without a PbP hat on.
The multiplayer is different from the two-player in one main respect -- you rarely go on beast hunts. Instead the game is about all the other stuff besides beast hunts. Another difference is that players can boost each other's efforts mechanically to a small degree by trading bonuses and so on. That said, I wouldn't call it a party-based game, so players could follow different threads.
There still is one Challenger for the group though.
Also there is a demo here (for those with slow connections, note that these pdfs include the book art):

Are you proposing to run a 2-player game (the 2 players alternating being the Hunter and the Challenger) or are you proposing a multi-player game?
Does the Challenger alternate in the multi-player game?

A two player game Garvey -- though multiplayer would be great too, I just was keeping my sights low at first.
In multiplayer it's my impression that the Challenger does not switch roles, though that certainly sounds possible. You could do something of a round-robin, where each player is the Challenger to the player on their virtual right or something. That does bump up the activity requirement a bit, though.

Well, I bit the bullet and ordered the book (print+pdf). I'm pretty swamped until after Wednesday (I'm flying on Wednesday, so I can read Beast Hunters on the plane then!), but I could start after then.

So, I slept on my flight back (not having slept in almost 48 hrs at that point - good prep for DRYH!). I've since read over a bit (but not all (not yet!)) of Beast Hunters, and I'm pretty excited. It does look fairly complex, but I'm sure we can work it out.

Yeah, with the multi-step conflict negotiation process (and back-and-forth of actual conflict resolution), I think we might figure out some ways to do this by PbP that could help with other crunchy games.

Note: I got my hardcopy of the game last night. That should make finding the time to read it a lot easier (since I can't bring my computer everywhere). Sorry about the delay. I imagine I'll be through it by this weekend at the latest.

I still haven't had a chance to read the game, but its first on my queue. I have to say that the system is pretty heavy and intimidating. Hopefully I'll get to it soon, but if you're really gung-ho to get started, you may want to find somebody else.

I'm not really so ready to go, more in a time crunch recently actually. I'll just leave this thread open and see who's interested when.
